I’m humbled by your dedication and desire to protect our country. My son Ryan is also an infantryman with the 82nd Airborne. You were a very accomplished young man in such a short time achieving so much that alot of us cannot or do not accomplish. My heart goes out to your beautiful family. The good die young, you will not be forgotten. My family and I consider you a great hero, and we thank you for your service to our country.

Well David, you wouldn’t belive all the attention you are getting. Most of which is good. In June 30th issue of News Week there was and article about you. Tried to make you sound like a dummy. Said you should not have been in the Army. That’s the thanks you get for serving your country???? There were a lot of lies in that article. Just like the lies that were told when you died. Saying your family didn’t care about you. That you were abonded ect.. The family didn’t get to tell their side. Guess it wasn’t spicy enough. Well you got the people of Marysville to show you some respect instead of looking down on you. Funny how when you were growing up how they made fun of you and called you names, now they want to write all this crap saying how they were there for you. I guess it is called guilt. David, your family loved you. They are proud of you. Rest In Peace David. You are missed dearly.

To me, anyone that chooses to serve their country, is a true hero. And those who give their lives for what they believe in are angels. Enjoy your wings Mat-you’ve earned them, as well as our never ending gratitude.

thank you to everyone who reads this tribute and any others as there are many.
mat would get a kick out of people making such a big deal over him. he was such a ham like that. i will make sure his 3 nieces never forget him.

In my eyes, you are a Hero. Each time I see this particular picture of Mat, I get very choked up, and appropriate words are hard to come by . To say ‘ thank you ‘ for your service to our country seems quite insufficient, for the greatest sacrifice anyone can give.
May you have the peace and comfort you so richly deserve and know that you are not forgotten to this day.

Matt, you touched the lives of so many people in the 22 years you were on this earth. My dad, Ron Arteno and brother Joseph will never forget the kind of man you were and would have become. You mean so much to them.
