BAGHDAD, July 13 (KUNA) — US soldiers killed five Iraqis in random fire after the explosion of an improvised device Friday noon in Al-Abidi neighborhood, eastern Baghdad, according to Iraqi security source.
The source told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) an improvised explosive device blew up today at noon as a US military convoy was passing by, setting a military vehicle on fire.
The US soldiers opened fire randomly after the explosion, killing five Iraqi citizens and wounding seven others, the source said.
Rescue teams arrived to the scene and confirmed the casualty numbers who were transported to nearby hospitals, it added.
The source indicated that US troops surrounded the location and the air force support backed US soldiers present in the area.
On Thursday, some 15 Iraqi civilians were killed and more than 20 others were injured when the US Army bombarded Al-Amin’s neighborhood in southeast Baghdad, according to Head of Operations’ Department at the Iraqi Health Ministry Dr. Chasib Latif. During the raid, two of Reuters’ Iraqi staff were killed.
Meanwhile, Iraqi police discovered 30 dead bodies in the past 24 hours in Baghdad’s suburbs. The people were killed in shadowy circumstances.
