The Army blames rising casualties in Iraq and good economic conditions for falling enlistments.
The Army fell more than 1,000 recruits short of its June goal for new soldiers. It’s the second straight month the Army has come up short. But Local 12 reporter Paul Adler talked to four friends who have decided to buck the trend and enlist.
The four friends know they will be together for boot camp, but will be split up after that. They say they realized when they signed up that they could be deployed to Iraq, but are prepared for it and are ready to serve our country.
While the Army fell short of its recruiting goal, other branches of the active duty military met or exceeded their goals. The Pentagon says the Marines, for example, exceeded it’s goal by more than 300 new recruits.
