A gunmen who carried out the assassination of Head of the Supreme Council of Islamic Revolution in Iraq, Ayatollah Sayed Mohammad Bagher al-Hakim has been hanged, a senior Iraqi Justice Ministry official said Friday.

"Oras Mohammed Abdul-Aziz, also known as Abu Omar al-Kurdi from Mosul, was executed on July 3 at 11:00 am," Under Secretary Busho Ibrahim told AFP.

"He was executed by hanging in Baghdad."

On August 2003, senior Shia official Ayatollah Mohammad Baqer al-Hakim, Head of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq and at least 84 more people were killed when a car bomb exploded outside the Imam Ali (AS) holy shrine in Najaf.
