BAGHDAD, July 5 (KUNA) — US forces arrested 25 armed men on Thursday during a wide scale military operation Northwest of Baghdad, while armed clashes erupted in the city of Samawa South of Iraq.
The US military said in a statement that its soldiers have been undertaking operation "Iron Campaign" since June and have arrested 25 people charged with planting explosives in the Abu Ghraib, Tajji, and Sab’e AlBour areas.
The operation was carried out by US military Brigade "Iron Horse," the statement said.
Local tribes’ leaders in the area played a key role during the operation, the statement added.
Meanwhile, an Iraqi police source said clashes erupted between police and Mehdi Army militants in the South of Samawa.
The clashes resulted in the killing of three people, among them one police officer while six other people were injured, the source added.
